Unexplored regions of Japan that you would like to visit

The Blue Pond in Biei

The Blue Pond in Biei, which gained worldwide recognition when it was featured as an Apple wallpaper, is one of Japan’s most breathtaking scenic spots and a representative tourist destination in Hokkaido. The pond’s unique blue color is due to the reflection of light off particles containing aluminum in the water, creating a mesmerizing hue that attracts numerous visitors. The scenery changes with the seasons, but the contrast between the pond and the surrounding nature is particularly striking in summer and autumn.

Located upstream of the Biei River, the Blue Pond receives its water from the nearby “Shirahige Waterfall,” another famous site in the area. This region is perfect for combining visits to other attractions, such as the rolling hills of Biei and the nearby lavender fields.

To fully appreciate the tranquil beauty of the Blue Pond, visiting early in the morning or in the evening is recommended, as these times offer a more serene atmosphere.
